About the Role
Position: Public Interest Technologist
Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
Contract: 9 months (with the possibility of extension)
Salary: ₹80,000 - ₹90,000 per month
Location: Remote (with an option to work from the Bengaluru office)
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Study and document online censorship and privacy violations by state and industry actors.
- Conduct and analyse network measurements to report on internet interference by ISPs and governments.
- Prevent, detect, and mitigate digital security threats targeting human rights defenders and grassroots organisations.
- Critically appraise public interest technological systems and suggest inclusive, secure, and privacy-enhanced alternatives.
Indicative Requirements
- Knowledge of computer networks, information security, and technological architectures.
- Ability to explain technical topics clearly and concisely.
- 3-5 years of experience in developing, deploying, or securing non-trivial software in academic or industry settings.
- A degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent (preferred).
- Ability to independently conceptualise and complete research projects.
