The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program works with governments across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to reduce childhood lead exposure. The program strengthens health systems, builds local expertise, and supports sound, cost-effective policies to address one of the most widespread and preventable environmental health threats in low and middle income countries.

Role

You will be the lead specialist in building data systems that help experts and governments understand lead exposure risks. Your work involves creating tools to track health and environmental data, helping officials in Asia, Africa, and Latin America make informed decisions to save lives.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain integrated data systems, dashboards, and visualisation tools using Power BI, Tableau, R Markdown, or Excel to support health and environmental decision-making across government ministries
  • Develop tools to identify, inventory, clean, validate, and align multi-sector datasets covering health, environment, demographics, and social indicators from national and international sources
  • Define database structures, relational schemas, and workflows to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of blood lead level and related epidemiological and environmental data
  • Work with epidemiologists and country teams to develop global and country-specific indicators and indices related to lead exposure risk
  • Align data architecture with existing government health information systems such as SINAN, SIASUS, and SISAGUA
  • Guide and support country teams on data system development, data quality checks, cleaning, validation, and maintenance
  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and capacity building efforts to strengthen local analytical skills in partner countries
  • Support the creation of national strategies and action plans on data integration
  • Coordinate with government ministries, international NGOs, and health institutions to ensure timely data sharing and program progress
  • Communicate data findings and analytical outputs clearly to both technical experts and non-technical policymakers through presentations, reports, and publications
  • Track and report implementation progress and ensure timely delivery of outputs aligned with project and government timelines

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Public Health, or a related field
  • 6–7 years of experience in data science, health surveillance, or public health data systems
  • Proficiency in data visualisation and warehousing tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Azure or Fabric, and SQL Server
  • Experience with statistical and programming tools such as R, Python, SAS, SPSS, or Stata
  • Strong ability to design database structures and workflows for complex multi-sector datasets
  • Experience working with government health or environmental departments and large health surveillance datasets
  • Ability to collaborate with epidemiologists and translate health risks into measurable indicators
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams across multiple time zones
  • Familiarity with health information systems such as DHIS2, geospatial tools like QGIS or ArcGIS, and AI applications in quantitative data is a plus
  • Must have valid work authorisation in India at the time of joining
