Doctors Without Borders India (DWBI), also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), provides medical care to people in need without any discrimination based on race, religion, gender, or political view. The team sets up health centers, runs medical programs for critical illnesses, builds awareness, and supports research to improve care across India. MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 for its medical work across several continents.

Role

Lead accounting and financial management for the DWBI mission in India. Make sure all accounts, audits, and donor reports meet legal requirements and DWBI standards while providing clear, reliable information on how funds are used.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full mission accounting, including cash, bank accounts, receipts, data entry, monthly and yearly closing, and balance sheet reporting.
  • Manage donor contracts by preparing and verifying financial reports, tracking amendments, and keeping teams informed of their duties.
  • Oversee tax payments, local audits, and compliance covering accounting, tax, labor, stock, and asset management.
  • Supervise finance assistants and support their recruitment, training, evaluation, and growth.
  • Act as the technical lead for DWBI accounting software and UNIFIELD, including training, troubleshooting, and support for staff and coordinators.
  • Keep Tally data up to date and aligned with local compliance norms.
  • Manage day to day banking work including account opening, closure, KYC, and bank reconciliations.
  • Set up clear cash, transfer, advance, payment, and traceability workflows through invoices, receipts, and bank statements.
  • Track project budgets with the Deputy Finance Coordinator and suggest corrective actions when needed.
  • Track service contracts such as office and vehicle rentals, deposits, and rent payments.
  • Manage scanning, uploading, and archiving of mission financial records.
  • Brief coordination teams, admin managers, and logistics managers on accounting matters as needed.

Requirements

  • University degree in Accounting and Finance, with a recognized professional accounting qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar finance role in India.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Hindi.
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and internet tools; working knowledge of Tally and local accounting standards; ERP or DWBI accounting software experience is a plus.
  • Strong people management, teamwork, and team development skills.
  • Commitment to DWBI's humanitarian principles, with flexibility, accountability, and a results-oriented approach.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
