WJCF is an Indian non-profit working to reduce the burden of disease and build strong, government-owned health systems. Since 2007, it has worked closely with India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and State Health Departments, combining data-driven approaches and public health expertise to design and scale health programmes across the country. WJCF works across major health areas like hepatitis, HIV, tuberculosis, immunisation, maternal and child health, and lead poisoning, supporting programmes across 19 states and union territories. It is affiliated with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), a global health organisation with a shared mission.
Role
You’ll be the coordination backbone for WJCF’s lead poisoning programme embedded at NCDC, turning government priorities into workplans, tracking progress, and bringing ministries and partners together to keep the national response moving.
Responsibilities
- Provide day to day secretariat support to NCDC for the national lead programme, preparing meeting agendas, workplans, and documentation across surveillance, capacity building, and enforcement priorities
- Support NCDC’s National Lead Technical Working Group by pulling together data, expert input, and follow-up actions, and help turn discussions into clear next steps
- Help integrate state and laboratory data into the national health information platform, and support dashboard design for decision-making
- Support NCDC in identifying high-risk areas, mapping laboratory and referral infrastructure, and coordinating with partners
- Organise and facilitate meetings between ministries working on lead and chemical exposure, including environment, industry, labour, food safety, water, and mines, and prepare briefing notes for senior government decision-makers
- Maintain workplan trackers and milestone dashboards, and support costed annual workplans as part of the programme’s budgeting process
- Prepare progress reports, briefing notes, and strategy documents for donors and government partners
- Lead WJCF’s engagement in focal states with NCDC and state health departments, adapting the approach to each state’s needs, and support state-level surveillance systems
- Help align state health and environment departments on lead-related priorities
- Build and maintain relationships with NCDC, senior MoHFW officials, state health departments, CPCB, FSSAI, and partners like WHO, UNICEF, Pure Earth, and Vital Strategies, and support joint advocacy efforts
###mRequirements
- Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Health Management, Development Studies, or a related field
- At least 2 years of relevant experience
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and quantitative skills
- Ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders, including senior level officials
- Ability to independently drive forward assigned work through planning, prioritising, and stakeholder engagement
- Comfortable working independently in ambiguous, fast changing environments
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Experience in environmental health, chemical toxicants, or occupational health is a plus
- Professional proficiency in Hindi is a plus
