This role sits within WRI India's Operations team, which handles budget and finance, grants and contracts, legal, human resources, IT and facilities so that programme staff and researchers can do their field and research work without hurdles.

Role
This is a finance and accounting role that keeps WRI India's books accurate, compliant and easy to trust. The Associate handles accounts payable, reconciliations and month-end closing, prepares and reviews financial statements, and works with the reporting manager and the external accounting firm to resolve accounting questions. The role also supports the Operations team's wider work, including recordkeeping systems, HR coordination and steady improvements to how finance processes run.
Responsibilities
- Update accounts payable records and carry out reconciliations.
- Take part in month-end closing, including journal entries and related analysis.
- Report to the manager on programme finances, and develop, apply, modify and document recordkeeping and accounting systems.
- Advise on tax approaches and on the assumptions behind financial forecasts.
- Analyse accounting issues and queries, discuss them with the reporting manager, and work with the external accounting firm to find solutions.
- Prepare, examine and analyse accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports for accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Support the India team in finding answers to institutional and financial problems.
- Coordinate with the HR team to build and maintain a database.
- Devise and run sourcing strategies and employer branding work that build a pipeline of qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds.
- Keep records of all mails and documents used for recruitment on the applicant tracking system.
- Support the design and rollout of HR initiatives and projects.
- Drive continuous process improvement so finance and operations run better over time.
Requirements
- CA Inter, or an M. Com, or an MBA in finance.
- At least 2 to 4 years of full time work experience in financial management.
- Sound working knowledge of FCRA, TDS filings, and professional tax returns and filings.
- Understanding of taxes, cash flow management, bank reconciliation and bookkeeping.
- Strong conceptual grasp of accounting and of how an HR function is structured.
- Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders at different levels, both inside and outside the organisation.
- A strategic thinker with a sharp eye for detail.
- The intellect, character and presence to contribute from early on.
- Experience of working in an NGO is an advantage.
- Knowledge of FCRA in a nonprofit setting is an advantage.
- The position is based in New Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, with an office flexible arrangement.
- The role runs for one year and can be extended based on performance and project requirement.
- The start date is at the earliest.
