SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action)
SNEHA is a Mumbai based nonprofit working to improve the health, nutrition, and safety of women and children living in vulnerable urban settlements. It works directly with communities and with public health and safety systems, running programmes across maternal and child health, adolescent health, prevention of violence against women and children, public system partnerships, and palliative care. Between 2016 and 2025, SNEHA directly reached over 620,000 women, children, and health workers, and impacted over 3.6 million people across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Role
This role supports SNEHA’s work in Mankhurd to strengthen the government’s Anganwadi (ICDS) system for child nutrition and development. You will mentor 16 to 20 Anganwadi Sevikas through regular field visits, build their capacity through training, and track progress through data and reporting. You will also work closely with ICDS staff, community volunteers, and local stakeholders to improve how services reach families. This suits someone who enjoys mentoring frontline workers and strengthening public health systems on the ground.
Responsibilities
- Develop and carry out monthly field activity plans, with regular visits to assigned Anganwadis
- Mentor 20 to 22 ICDS Sevikas through field visits, focusing on strengthening the six core ICDS services
- Build the capacity of Anganwadi Workers through need based training, on site guidance, and coordination with the training team
- Conduct needs assessment surveys, map Anganwadi centres, and keep Anganwadi profiles and scorecards updated
- Enter mentoring visit data into the Commcare app and track progress through the dashboard
- Prepare and submit timely reports on programme performance, field observations, and data
- Support community awareness campaigns and monthly meetings with community volunteers
- Bring together ICDS staff, health systems, community based organisations, and volunteers to improve how services reach families
- Support meetings, events, and trainings within approved budgets, and track materials and resources provided
Requirements
- Graduate degree, preferably in Social Work (BSW)
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in maternal and child health, or working with public systems like ICDS, BMC health posts, or CBOs/NGOs
- Strong mentoring skills, with the ability to give practical, constructive feedback to frontline workers
- Clear and effective communication skills for working with ICDS staff, frontline workers, and communities
- Good problem solving skills, with the ability to guide workers on field level challenges and know when to escalate issues
- Strong negotiation skills to work with ICDS officials, local stakeholders, and community members
- Empathy and patience while working with Anganwadi workers, beneficiaries, and community members
- Willingness to travel within Mumbai, Maharashtra, and India as needed
