Hasiru Dala is a social impact organisation that works to secure the rights and dignity of waste pickers. They build solutions together with waste picker communities in areas like identity rights, employment, skills training, healthcare, housing, and social security. They also work with policymakers at multiple levels to push for lasting change in the system.
Role
The Project Coordinator will support and manage the on-ground work of the Responsible Sourcing Initiative under The Circulate Initiative. The role focuses on improving working conditions, health, safety, and social protection for informal waste workers in the plastic recycling value chain.
Responsibilities
- Support daily project activities based on approved work plans and timelines.
- Coordinate with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to deliver project outputs on time.
- Track project milestones, schedules, and key deliverables; ensure compliance with donor requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with waste workers, aggregators, recyclers, and government departments.
- Support worker participation and mobilization in project activities; conduct regular field visits to check on progress.
- Organize training programs for workers and value chain partners; maintain attendance records and share learning materials.
- Support the rollout and tracking of health, safety, and social protection programs for workers.
- Connect workers to government social security schemes and benefits through coordination with relevant departments.
- Collect, verify, and maintain project data, databases, and implementation records.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and donor reports, activity notes, case studies, and success stories.
- Coordinate logistics for meetings, trainings, workshops, and field visits; maintain stakeholder contact databases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in project work, community engagement, public health, livelihoods, or worker welfare programs.
- Prior experience working with informal workers, waste picker communities, or urban development programs is an advantage.
- Familiarity with social security schemes, occupational health and safety, or community-based programs is a plus.
- Good written and spoken English; working knowledge of Hindi and Kannada.
- Comfortable using MS Office tools and digital data collection apps.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and data management skills.
- Good at building and managing relationships with a wide range of people and organizations.
- Organized, self-driven, and able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Willing to travel regularly for field-based work.
