Role
Lead the mental health and emotional wellbeing component of Heed India's Adolescent Health Programme providing counselling, screening, tele-consultations, and referrals for adolescents across approximately five districts, while building the capacity of school staff and public health nurses to identify and respond to mental health needs early.
Responsibilities
- Support identification of students who need emotional or psychological help through screening and referral cases from nurses, school sessions, community camps, teachers, and parents
- Conduct individual counselling, group counselling, and tele-counselling sessions for adolescents on stress, anxiety, exam pressure, peer and family issues, self-esteem, and digital wellbeing
- Identify high-risk adolescents requiring specialist or psychiatric care and coordinate referrals with healthcare facilities
- Maintain confidential counselling records and follow-up mechanisms
- Conduct school awareness sessions on emotional wellbeing, stress management, bullying prevention, healthy relationships, and life skills
- Support teachers in recognising early signs of mental health concerns among students
- Train public health nurses and school staff on psychological first aid, basic mental health screening, adolescent-friendly communication, and referral processes
- Track counselling sessions, referral cases, tele-consultations, and improvement follow-ups; submit monthly programme reports
- Follow child-safe counselling practices, consent protocols, and safeguarding standards at all times
Requirements
- Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Applied Psychology
- RCI registration preferred
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in counselling, adolescent mental health, school counselling, or community mental health programmes
- Experience with tele-counselling and school-based interventions preferred
- Experience in NGO or public health programmes, rural or underserved settings, or school mental health initiatives is an advantage
- Strong counselling and communication skills with an adolescent-friendly approach
- Ability to handle crisis situations and manage referrals effectively
- Good documentation, reporting, training, and facilitation skills
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
- Cluster / State Level with hybrid online and field-based support
