Thanal is a social development organisation working in rehabilitation, health, education, welfare, and mental health. It functions under Daya Rehabilitation Trust, registered under the Indian Trusts Act. Founded in 2008 in Vadakara by a group of local community members and professionals, Thanal today operates from its headquarters in Malaparamba, Kozhikode, with centres across Kerala and programme engagements in 21 Indian states. The organisation is sustained by around 20,000 professionals and volunteers, and works on the principle of reaching the most marginalised and at-risk groups, focusing on holistic rehabilitation rather than relief alone.
Role
The Senior Finance Executive runs the everyday finance and accounting work of the organisation. You will keep the books accurate, move payments and receipts through properly, close the month and the year on schedule, and make sure the organisation stays compliant with tax, PF and ESI rules. You will work closely with the Finance Manager and with staff at the branches and centres, and you will be the person auditors deal with when they need papers and explanations.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting and finance operations.
- Prepare and maintain financial statements, reports, schedules and accurate books of accounts.
- Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations.
- Monitor income, expenses, cash flow and outstanding payments.
- Assist in budgeting, financial planning and variance analysis.
- Complete monthly and annual closing activities on time.
- Coordinate with auditors and support internal and statutory audits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting, taxation, PF, ESI and other statutory requirements.
- Review financial transactions and check that documentation and approvals are in place.
- Prepare management reports and give the management team the financial information it asks for.
- Coordinate with branches and centres on financial and accounting matters.
- Identify discrepancies, put corrective measures in place, and support the Finance Manager with financial analysis and other assigned tasks.
Requirements
- A degree in commerce, accounting or finance.
- At least 3 years of work experience in accounting or finance.
- Hands on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliation.
- Ability to prepare financial statements, schedules and management reports without supervision.
- Working knowledge of Indian taxation, TDS, PF and ESI filing requirements.
- Experience supporting internal or statutory audits and dealing with auditors.
- Comfort with Tally or similar accounting software, and with spreadsheets.
- Care with documentation, approvals and record keeping.
