Noora Health

Noora Health is a nonprofit that helps families take better care of the people they love. It teaches patients and family members simple, practical health skills, often while they are in hospital, so they feel confident giving care at home. Noora Health works with government health systems so these lessons reach large numbers of people, many of them in rural or low-resource settings. Its work depends on clear, friendly materials that people of any reading level can understand. This role sits within Noora Health's Creative Design team, which creates the visual materials used to teach health skills to families.

Role

As Senior Illustrator, you will create pictures and visual stories that help people understand health and care, especially people with low literacy and communities in rural or low-resource settings. You will work with designers, public health experts, writers, medical experts, filmmakers and behavioural researchers to make illustrations that are medically accurate, culturally sensitive and engaging. The role suits a curious, experienced illustrator who enjoys trying new styles, takes feedback well, and can move between simple and detailed realistic work depending on the audience. It is a hybrid role based in Bangalore, with travel to the field for research and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead illustration projects from the first brief and visual research through concept development to final artwork, managing several projects and timelines at once.
  • Turn complex health and behaviour ideas into clear, engaging and culturally relevant visual stories for diverse audiences.
  • Research people, places, clothing, objects and daily habits across different regions of India so that every illustration is accurate and respectful.
  • Create characters, scenes, environments, storyboards and visual styles for print, digital, animation and multimedia projects, switching between stylised and realistic looks as needed.
  • Work closely with the design, film, storytelling, content, medical, research and behavioural teams, and use their feedback to improve the work while keeping quality high.
  • Guide other illustrators, freelancers and outside creative partners with creative direction and helpful feedback.
  • Join field visits and user testing to see how people understand the illustrations, and improve them based on what you learn.
  • Build and maintain character libraries, visual references and reusable assets, and try out AI illustration tools to work faster while keeping the work original and accurate.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional illustration experience, ideally in a creative studio, agency, design consultancy or social impact organisation.
  • A strong portfolio that shows character design, environments, visual storytelling and a range of illustration styles across print or digital media.
  • Excellent drawing basics, including human anatomy, proportion, perspective, composition, colour and expressions, and the ability to shape a fitting visual direction from a brief.
  • Strong visual research skills and the ability to show diverse people, cultures and places with care and accuracy.
  • Good skills in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and other digital illustration tools, and an understanding of how to use AI-assisted creative tools responsibly.
  • Experience reviewing illustration work and giving clear, helpful feedback, with experience in storyboarding or illustration for animation as an advantage.
  • Ability to work on your own, manage your time well and keep large sets of illustrations consistent while communicating clearly with teams from many fields.
  • Willingness to work from Bangalore on a hybrid basis and travel to the field, along with a real interest in designing for people with low literacy in rural or low-resource communities.

Benefits

  • Hybrid working from Bangalore.
  • Work alongside designers, public health and medical experts, writers, filmmakers and behavioural researchers.
  • Room to explore new illustration styles, mediums and AI tools.
  • Field visits to see how the people your work is made for understand it.
  • Work that helps families learn the skills to care for each other's health.
