Role

The Senior Officer, Philanthropic Partnerships -India helps develop, execute and manage selected strategic philanthropic partnerships across India. The work combines hands-on partnership execution, support for engaging external partners, and coordination inside the foundation, working closely with senior partnership leads and programme teams. A core part of the role is helping philanthropists, CSR leaders and domestic foundations find meaningful ways to engage in global health and development, turning their interest into well-structured partnerships that last. The role also helps create informed champions: partners who give, and who also lend their voice, convene others and inspire wider support. It reports to the Deputy Director, Policy, Communications and Partnerships in the Gates Foundation India office, works closely with a peer Senior Officer, and is based in New Delhi.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the cultivation, structuring and stewardship of partnerships with India-based philanthropists, corporate and private foundations, CSR leaders and peer institutions.
  • Take part in partner meetings, learning engagements, site visits and convenings, and follow through to keep relationships strong.
  • Prepare briefs, background notes, partnership concepts and engagement materials that support partner conversations.
  • Support the design and running of collaborative platforms, pooled initiatives and other partnership vehicles aligned with foundation priorities.
  • Translate partner interests into concrete engagement pathways, partnership structures and shared goals.
  • Manage a selected portfolio of partnership-related grants, covering proposal drafting, progress reviews, budget tracking and assessment of results.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline and portfolio tracking so planning and reporting stay reliable.
  • Contribute to work that strengthens India's philanthropic ecosystem, including landscape analyses of philanthropies, intermediaries and networks in global health and global growth and opportunity.
  • Support convenings and knowledge products that promote learning, coordination and effective giving.
  • Work with India Country Office teams, regional strategy leads and global programme teams to align partnership opportunities with programme priorities.
  • Coordinate across the Philanthropic Partnerships Team functions of Outreach, Events, Communications and Data and Insights so partner engagement is timely and coherent.
  • Track trends in Indian philanthropy, CSR and social impact, and prepare clear written and verbal updates for internal stakeholders on progress, risks and new opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in public policy, business, development, finance or a related field.
  • Approximately 10 or more years of relevant experience in philanthropy, partnerships, strategy, development, consulting or adjacent fields.
  • Experience working with Indian philanthropists, CSR leaders, foundations, intermediaries or social impact organisations.
  • Understanding of global health and development issues is strongly preferred.
  • Experience engaging many stakeholders across sectors in India.
  • Strong relationship-management and partnership-execution skills.
  • A track record of turning complex challenges into effective partnerships across several partners or funders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced and uncertain settings with many stakeholders.
  • Strong contextual understanding of India's philanthropic and CSR landscape.
  • Willingness to travel up to about 30 percent of the time, mainly within India.
  • Based in New Delhi, where the role sits.
