CEEW
CEEW, the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, is one of India's leading think tanks. Its researchers study energy, environment and water, and use what they learn to shape public policy at scale. The organisation values curiosity, responsibility, leadership by initiative and a safe space for everyone who works there. This role sits within CEEW's Outreach team, which shares CEEW's research through media, social media, events, websites and print.
Role
As Senior Programme Communications Associate (Data Visualisation), you will help people understand CEEW's research through charts, maps and data stories they want to read, share and trust. You will design, write and think in data, and check the numbers and the framing with researchers before anything goes out. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, you will help set the direction of CEEW's data storytelling across social media posts, websites, print and physical formats.
Responsibilities
- Lead the direction of CEEW's data communications work, including new formats, and spot chances for data-led stories across its research.
- Plan, design and oversee data products in static, interactive, digital and physical formats, matching the format, visual style and story to each audience and goal.
- Produce charts, maps and data stories for social media, emailers, websites, events and print, with clear headlines, captions and short copy.
- Check every number against the source data, question the framing and work with researchers before any visual is published.
- Set and maintain the visual language, layouts, typography and style guidelines for CEEW's data products so they stay consistent across formats.
- Explore and adopt new tools and methods for data storytelling, including AI-based workflows for making charts.
- Build relationships with designers, agencies, visualisation specialists and other partners working in data storytelling.
- Support the Outreach team with media and social media work, and give hands-on data visualisation support for key events.
Requirements
- A bachelor's or master's degree in data journalism, information design, statistics or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience making graphics for external audiences, with a strong record of high-quality charts for different media.
- Skill in Figma, Canva and QGIS and comfort with basic data analysis in Excel or spreadsheets, with coding skills as a plus.
- Excellent written English, including headlines, captions and short explainers written to publication standard.
- A sharp eye for detail and the curiosity to learn energy, environment and water topics well enough to question the numbers and the framing.
- A big appetite for news and research, and good knowledge of data storytelling at publications such as The Financial Times, The Economist, The New York Times, The Hindu and Ember.
- The ability to manage several projects and deadlines at once in a fast-paced team without losing quality.
- Based in New Delhi or willing to move there.
Benefits
- Pay that is above the market rate.
- A close look at how one of India's leading think tanks works, and a real chance to shape public views and policy through data.
- Room to lead by initiative and set the direction of CEEW's data storytelling.
- Smart colleagues who will challenge you and help you learn and grow fast.
- A culture that values curiosity and responsibility and offers a safe space for everyone.
