Butterflies

butterflies3.jpeg Butterflies is a non-profit that protects and supports vulnerable children, especially children connected to the street. It works with children as equal partners and keeps them in their homes and communities instead of putting them in institutions. Its work helps children go to school, learn life skills and look after their mental health. It also supports families, communities and schools so that children get care at every step. This role sits within Butterflies' adolescent risk prevention initiative, which works in Southeast Delhi communities to stop children from being pulled into unlawful activity.

Role

As a Social Case Worker, you will find children who are at risk early, keep them safe, and help them grow strong enough to say no to harmful peer pressure. You will use social case work and social group work to give each child real, caring support. You will also work with families, schools, local leaders and child protection bodies such as the JJB and DCPU, so that every child has a safe place to grow up.

Responsibilities

  • Map target communities through outreach and identify the risks that push children towards conflict with the law.
  • Build trust with children, families, schools, local leaders and community centres so that everyone takes part in the work.
  • Create care plans for high-risk children and give one-on-one support for behaviour and developmental needs.
  • Run life skills sessions that teach children to handle peer pressure, make good decisions, resolve conflicts and manage stress and difficult emotions.
  • Organise regular sports, arts, creative and learning activities, and record how children change through the sports programme.
  • Support parents to build a positive home and connect families to government welfare schemes, education resources and other services.
  • Work with formal child protection systems, local leaders, schools and the community social protection committee, including holding meetings and running trainings for the committee.
  • Prepare regular reports, progress updates and project records.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), with a specialisation in medical and psychiatric social work.
  • 2-3 years of field experience working directly with children and adolescents in community-based social work, though freshers may also apply.
  • Strong knowledge of social case work and social group work methods, and a willingness to learn new ways of working.
  • Good organisation, planning and documentation skills.
  • Fluency in Hindi and English.
  • Ability to work in communities in Southeast Delhi.
  • A genuine wish to work with children from the most marginalised communities.

Benefits

  • Salary based on your qualifications, experience and the organisation's pay scale.
  • A six-month probation followed by a one-year contract, renewed every year based on your performance.
  • Hands-on experience in community-based child protection and prevention work.
  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of children and families in Delhi.
