Thanal is an indigenous humanitarian organisation founded in Vadakara in 2008 by a group of local community members and professionals. It works under the Daya Rehabilitation Trust, registered under the Indian Trusts Act, and runs Rehabilitation Homes, Dialysis Centers, Pain and Palliative Care Centers, Schools for Differently Abled children, and other health and welfare services. Thanal operates from its headquarters in Kozhikode, Kerala, with centres across Kerala, Karnataka, and Pondicherry, and programme engagements across 21 Indian states.

Role

THANAL is looking for a Social Worker to provide social and emotional support to residents at its Rehabilitation Home in Gudibanda. The role involves understanding each resident's individual needs, supporting care and rehabilitation planning, and maintaining connections with families and communities. The Social Worker will coordinate with doctors, therapists, and caregivers, help residents access government schemes and benefits, and organise recreational and community activities. This role calls for compassion, patience, and a strong commitment to dignity and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide social and emotional support to residents and understand their individual needs
• Conduct regular interactions with residents and monitor their social and emotional wellbeing
• Assist in developing individual care and rehabilitation plans with the care team
• Coordinate with family members and maintain regular communication regarding residents
• Support residents in maintaining family and community relationships
• Conduct counselling and supportive sessions as required
• Maintain resident case files, assessments, progress notes, and documentation
• Coordinate with doctors, therapists, caregivers, and other professionals for comprehensive care
• Support residents in accessing government schemes, benefits, and other services
• Organise recreational, social, and community based activities for residents
• Identify social, behavioural, or family related concerns and report them to the Manager
• Assist the Manager in resolving resident and family concerns
• Participate in awareness programmes, outreach activities, and community engagement initiatives
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure residents are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion

Requirements

• MSW qualification
• Minimum 1 year of experience (2 years preferred)
• Strong interpersonal and counselling skills
• Experience maintaining case files, assessments, and progress documentation
• Ability to coordinate with doctors, therapists, caregivers, and families
• Compassion, patience, and a strong sense of confidentiality
