Jhpiego is an international nonprofit health organization and an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, working to improve the health of women and families around the world. For over 50 years, it has focused on making quality healthcare more affordable and accessible, training health workers, and strengthening health systems. Jhpiego has worked in India since the 1980s in close partnership with national and state governments, helping design and scale practical health solutions across 11 areas, including maternal and newborn health, reproductive health, nutrition, immunization, primary health care, and digital health.
Role
This role leads Jhpiego’s Family Health work in Uttar Pradesh, covering maternal health, child health, and family planning programmes that support the state government in strengthening health systems and improving access to care. You will provide technical guidance, manage a team, and build strong relationships with government departments and partner organisations. You will make sure programmes are implemented well, data is accurate, and donors and leadership receive timely updates. You will work closely with state and district teams, technical experts, and partners to help improve family health outcomes across Uttar Pradesh. This role suits someone with strong public health expertise who can also lead a team and manage government relationships.
Responsibilities
- Give technical guidance for maternal health, child health, and family planning programmes, and support government partners in improving quality of care under RMNCH, LaQshya, Manyata, and related initiatives
- Help introduce evidence based practices and communication strategies to improve service delivery, keeping activities aligned with state, national, and donor priorities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of 5 to 6 staff, supporting their growth and performance
- Act as Jhpiego’s main point of contact with government departments like NHM, the Directorate of - - Family Welfare, and SIFPSA, as well as professional bodies like FOGSI and other partners
- Represent Jhpiego at state and national meetings, technical groups, and policy forums
- Oversee trainings, workshops, supportive supervision visits, and review meetings, working with operations, finance, and procurement teams for smooth programme delivery
- Monitor field activities and resolve implementation issues quickly
- Make sure programme data is collected, analysed, and reported on time, working closely with the M&E team
- Prepare donor reports, presentations, case studies, and documentation of best practices
- Track progress against programme goals and timelines, staying accountable to government and donor partners
- Support organisational strategy, new proposals, and compliance with Jhpiego and donor policies
- Take on other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- MBBS, MD, or MSc Nursing with MPH
- More than 8 years of experience in RMNCH (reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health) programmes
- At least 2 to 3 years in a state level role with supervisory responsibility
- Strong knowledge of maternal health, child health, family planning, quality of care, and health systems strengthening
- Experience designing, implementing, monitoring, and scaling public health programmes
- Ability to align programme priorities with government and donor strategies and deliver results
- Strong problem solving skills to handle complex implementation challenges
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with government departments, medical colleges, professional bodies, and development partners
- Confident representing the organisation at high level meetings and policy forums
