Sense International India (Sense India)
Sense International India, known as Sense India, was established in 1997 as the first and only non-profit in India dedicated to supporting people with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. For 29 years, Sense India has worked with individuals, families, carers, and professionals to ensure that everyone affected by deafblindness has access to advice, opportunities, and support. The organisation partners with local, national, and international organisations, including governments, to develop practical and inclusive solutions.
Role
The Manager Livelihood Programs will lead the design and delivery of livelihood and skills training programmes for people with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. Working with the Head of Programmes, this role helps bridge the gap between special education and earning a living by building training models, employment pathways, and partnerships that work for people with complex disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design livelihood and skills training programmes suited to the sensory and physical needs of people with deaf, blindness and multiple disabilities. Identify practical work options such as home-based work, supported employment, sheltered enterprises, and micro-businesses for caregivers.
- Lead the delivery of education and skilling projects from start to finish, keeping them on time and within budget. Oversee training centres and production units, and help create pre-vocational training content covering daily living skills, mobility, and basic money management.
- Build partnerships with government agencies, corporate CSR teams, and employers. Advocate for the inclusion of people with deaf, blindness in mainstream skilling schemes and government programmes. Help employers make workplaces more accessible and provide ongoing support to both workers and employers.
- Organise workshops for educators, trainers, and field staff; build the capacity of families and caregivers to support or co-run livelihood activities. Create learning materials in formats that work for different communication needs, such as tactile, auditory, or visual tools.
- Track programme impact through monitoring and evaluation; maintain records, case studies, and documentation. Prepare regular reports, impact assessments, and funding proposals for donors and organisational leadership.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work, Rural Management, Development Studies, Special Education, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of project management experience in the development sector; minimum 3 years working in skilling, livelihoods, or economic empowerment programmes.
- Prior experience in the disability sector is required. Experience with deaf, blindness, intellectual disabilities, or multiple disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Good project management, budgeting, and proposal writing skills. Able to build relationships with government officials, corporate partners, and community organisations.
- Genuine empathy and belief in the abilities of people with complex disabilities.
- Fluency in English and Hindi. Knowledge of Indian Sign Language (ISL) or tactile communication is a strong advantage.
- Willing to travel extensively across India; comfortable working independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
Benefits
- Competitive salary in line with NGO sector pay scales, based on qualifications and experience.
- Full-time, two-year renewable contract with a six-month probation period.
- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Be part of a team creating real change for people with deafblindness across India.
- Sense India is an equal opportunity employer. Persons with disabilities and women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
