Role
The Senior Research Advisor, Data Science will lead data science and digital research work within the Policy and Communication team. You will build data systems, run advanced analysis, and turn complex information into clear insights that help governments and partners make better health policy decisions.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain data pipelines for social media and digital data, keeping datasets clean, accurate, and well-documented
- Align data formats and coding systems across multiple countries and platforms to support consistent, comparable analysis
- Apply machine learning methods including classification, clustering, and text analysis to generate insights relevant to public health policy
- Build and refine AI and Large Language Model (LLM) tools to analyze digital content, and document how they work and improve over time
- Lead analysis of digital media campaigns and social media platforms to track narratives, engagement, and communication tactics related to public health
- Develop and maintain easy-to-use dashboards and visualizations using Power BI for both internal teams and external partners
- Lead research planning across countries, including study design, analysis plans, and evaluation approaches
- Write reports, policy briefs, technical memos, and research summaries
- Translate data findings into clear, actionable recommendations for campaigns and policy discussions
- Train and support junior researchers and program teams on analytics, AI tools, and data visualization
- Coordinate with universities, technology vendors, research agencies, and international organizations to share findings and build partnerships
Requirements
- Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Data Science, Public Health, Statistics, or Computer Science.
- 10 years of experience in applied research, data modeling, or public health analytics.
- Strong skills in Python and SQL for managing large, complex datasets.
- Experience with machine learning, AI-based classification, and text analysis.
- Proficiency in using Power BI or similar tools to create clear data visualizations.
- Expertise in statistical software such as SPSS, R, STATA, or NVivo.
- Excellent communication skills in English to explain technical findings to various stakeholders.
- Ability to work across different time zones and travel for international coordination.
