The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) leads international efforts to defeat hunger, working in over 130 countries to help ensure everyone has regular access to enough high-quality food. In India, FAO is implementing a project to strengthen the country's capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to animal disease outbreaks, helping build long-term readiness against pandemics.
Role
This role focuses on developing print, digital, and visual communication for FAO's animal health and pandemic preparedness project in India. The Communication Specialist will create visibility materials, manage content across platforms, coordinate with government and international partners, and ensure all communication follows FAO's global standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain communication materials for FAO projects, keeping brand consistency
- Design print and digital visibility materials for pandemic preparedness and One Health projects
- Draft, edit, and review reports, case studies, opinion pieces, and policy papers
- Coordinate with government counterparts, the World Bank, and ADB on communication products and advocacy events
- Support knowledge sharing across project states through portals, events, and multimedia
- Coordinate with FAO's regional and headquarters teams for clearance of all communication materials
- Ensure communication outputs follow FAO's corporate policies and style guidelines
- Manage the approval process for materials, including logo and copyright coordination
- Update FAO India's website and social media with project news
- Coordinate video production and design work with external agencies
- Document case studies, success stories, and field-level learning from the project
- Coordinate workshops and training programs, including invitations and follow-ups
- Support the wider FAO India communication team with events and stakeholder engagement
- Take on additional tasks assigned by supervisors as needed
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Social Science, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience developing media and communication materials for the development sector, especially for web and digital publishing, including press releases, op-eds, news articles, and advocacy content for print, online, radio, and TV
- Working knowledge of English, both written and spoken, with strong reporting and presentation skills
- Must be a national of India
- Skilled in web content management, Photoshop, and web or desktop publishing tools; photography and photo editing experience is an advantage
- Experience managing social media accounts is an asset
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and coordinate communication outputs across state offices
- Able to produce high-quality reports and publications, even under pressure and tight deadlines
- Experience working with UN agencies and familiarity with UN rules is an asset
- Able to work well in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams
