Role
This is a 12 month role based with the Department of Food and Public Distribution in New Delhi. The Programme Policy Officer will provide technical support to improve the nutritional impact of India's public distribution system, working closely with government ministries and WFP's Nutrition and School Feeding team.
Responsibilities
- Research and recommend nutrition focused practices for the public distribution system
- Support the rollout of nutrition solutions like food fortification
- Analyze national health datasets to guide nutrition policy
- Coordinate across ministries on nutrition related interventions
- Act as the main technical link between government departments on nutrition programmes
- Document learnings from the fortified rice scheme and other nutrition efforts
- Support training and capacity building for government and partner staff
- Develop communication materials on nutrition for officials and the public
- Support states in setting up quality control processes for nutrition programmes
- Assist with technical inputs during parliament sessions and review meetings
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, or Medicine
- At least 1 year of professional experience in nutrition
- 10-12 years of experience working with government, UN agencies, or INGOs on nutrition preferred
- Experience working across government ministries on large scale nutrition projects preferred
- Experience contributing to nutrition policy discussions is a plus
- Strong skills in MS Office
- Knowledge of GIS tools like QGIS or ArcGIS, and data visualization tools like Tableau, is useful
- Knowledge of coding for AI or ML solutions is an added advantage
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Hindi
- Open to Indian nationals only
