Resolve to Save Lives

Resolve to Save Lives is a global public health organization that was established in 2017 by Dr. Tom Frieden, the former director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The organization's core mission is to prevent millions of deaths from the world's most significant health threats, specifically focusing on epidemics and cardiovascular disease. Role

The consultant will support countries to produce stronger analytical products and decision support tools using various types of data, including surveillance data and contextual risk and vulnerability data, to make outputs actionable. They will support workstreams that improve how decisions are made and how information flows between institutions and will be involved in designing a structured curriculum that aims to enhance epidemic intelligence of in-country technical staff.  

Responsibilities

  • Design and build data products such as outbreak situation reports, periodic epidemiological bulletins, and executive dashboards that help leaders make timely decisions.
  • Set up automated production pipelines for these products, with clear documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide hands-on technical mentorship to in-country teams, including support on data use capstone projects.
  • Train embedded teams on digital tools such as DHIS2, Emergency Management System (EMS), R, R Markdown, and GIS for data management, analytics, and reporting.
  • Help country teams combine data from many sources (surveillance, climate, labs, communities) into clear insights for action.
  • Strengthen how information flows between institutions and how decisions are made before and during outbreaks.
  • Submit all deliverables to the Principal Advisor, Data Use for Decision Science, Epidemic Intelligence, Prevent Epidemics Unit.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in public health, epidemiology, informatics, statistics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in infectious disease surveillance and analytics, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong skills in R and R Markdown or Quarto for data management, analysis, and automated reports. Familiarity with DHIS2 is a plus.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering public health information products such as outbreak reports and epidemiological bulletins, and turning complex data into clear, decision-ready outputs.
  • Experience mentoring multidisciplinary teams in low- and middle-income countries, using systems thinking and design thinking, with a focus on knowledge transfer and local ownership.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for working with government counterparts, NGOs, civil society, donors, and multilateral agencies.
  • Comfortable working in a remote and distributed setting and delivering high-quality technical support through virtual channels.
  • Proficiency in French or Portuguese is highly desirable.
  • Independent Contractor, approximately 65 days through 31 August 2026, with the possibility of extension
