Role

The Director of Human Resources leads the people strategy at Skoll, building a workplace where staff feel supported, valued, and ready to do their best work. You will manage everything from payroll and benefits to team culture, ensuring the Foundation has the right talent and systems to achieve its mission.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all people operations, ensuring the organization follows labor laws while modernizing systems for the future workforce.
  • Manage compensation and benefits programs to ensure pay is fair, competitive, and reflects the Foundation’s values.
  • Champion an inclusive culture where every team member feels they belong and can grow.
  • Design organizational structures that help teams work together smoothly and adapt to new challenges.
  • Oversee learning and development programs to help employees and leaders gain new skills.
  • Partner with the IT team to introduce helpful technology and AI tools that make HR tasks more efficient.
  • Manage recruitment and hiring to find people who are deeply aligned with social impact goals.
  • Represent the Foundation at global events like the Skoll World Forum to discuss the future of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a graduate degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of HR experience at a Director or Senior Manager level, ideally in a grant-making or non-profit setting.
  • Professional certification such as SPHR or SHRM-CP.
  • Expertise in payroll and HR systems, specifically with ADP Total Source or Workforce Now.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws in both California and the District of Columbia.
  • Experience working closely with senior executives and finance teams on strategic projects.
  • Ability to work on-site in Washington, DC, from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually, including international trips for global forums.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • A flexible, humble, and service-oriented attitude suited for a mission-driven team.
